Everyone's Favorite Snowman

So I debated for awhile if I should post about this or not but I wanted to share one of my son's favorite homemade toys that I've made for him. There is a certain show at our house that is VERY popular but when shopping around for a toy I was decidedly unimpressed with the quality and prices available… what's a mom to do?

Olaf* Inspired Craft

Version 1.0 was good. He was quick and easy and got the job done but after about a week the magnets I used started to pull through the felt (which was not completely unexpected but with a baby in the house was completely unacceptable). And if you're going to do something twice you might as well do it right…

So Version 2.0 started with a snowman skeleton made of some very durable home decor fabric I had left over from decorating the boys room… I turned the fabric inside out because it was navy blue and didn't flip the seam allowances because it wasn't going to show so why bother. I sewed all the magnets in place by making little fabric pockets that I sewed shut once the magnets were inside. (I bought these magnets) I had to draw on the details because at this point I stopped for the evening and Caleb's new favorite toy had been demolished in the process of starting over.

The next day I embroidered and worked to finish, this time using white felt instead of cream because Caleb had been quick to point out that Version 1.0 wasn't actually white. He got quickly crocheted

arms that go straight through his center with a large knot in the middle to keep them in place and I picked up some leather string for his stick hair that I added in after a couple of weeks of being asked "where is his hair?"

Now he's PERFECT! well… except for not having feet… but I think we'll just have to leave that to the imagination.

This is the pattern I made during my quest for the perfect toy. I think it probably goes without saying but please do not sell any items made from this pattern.

*Olaf is trademarked and copyrighted by Disney btw in case there was any doubt ;)
