Phil and Teds Vibe Basket Tutorial

My new phil and teds vibe stroller from craigslist is wonderful... So wonderful in fact I drove an hour and a half to go look at it and at least 2 hours to get home.

One minor problem though...

The basket was a little um... Well ruined and a new one runs $45, no thanks. Originally I was just going to quickly whip stitch it back together and call it a day like I did when the mesh on my pack and play tore... But since the damage was so very bad I did this instead :)

I unscrewed the 7 screws holding it in place.

Flipped it on it's side and then traced the mesh portion... Or what shape it would be in if not horrible mangled

then I made sure to make the side with the reflective tape a little wider since I couldn't really trace the outline the way it was

Then I cut out pretty fabric (2 peices mirrored)... I went with flowers because the stroller is MINE instead of robots or superheroes or something else that would have been popular with the boys.

First I made sure it fit

Then I used a seam ripper and ripped all the stitches out of the flat end of the mesh (rear of the basket) and also ripped stitches of about an inch of the binding. The edge along the reflective tape I just cut the mesh closely to the tape.

Once I had this end all prepped I recommend pinning and sewing the flat end of the pretty fabric into the basket first.

Then I pinned it to the reflective tape (as rarely ask could because it was awful to pin to) and sewed on the outside edge only.

Then I bent back the reflective tape and cut the webbing off of this side

Then came ripping all the binding stitches out and freeing the webbing from the rest of the basket.

Then pinning copious amounts of pins to the binding and your new fabric and sewing. Oh and don't forget these pesky little platic reinforcers for the rounded end... They seem important so make sure they come too.

I don't usually do a zigzag stitch for binding but I did this time so I wouldn't have to redo any mistakes.

Then I did the otherside and screwed it back into place. Now it's perfect
