Caleb's Birthday Bash

It is hard to believe that our little baby has somehow grown into such a big boy. We are so lucky that we get to raise such a fine young man as Caleb. Caleb has grown in ways I cannot even begin to describe. This time last year Caleb only had 11 clear words, 28 approximations and 27 signs. Now Caleb has so many words I haven't counted since Christmas when he had 260 words.

Caleb this year had a hard time deciding what kind of birthday party he wanted. First it was an Olaf party (which I was excited about), then he wanted a Robot party, but after further examination we found out what he wanted was not just a robot party but a Rescue Bot party.

For anyone who was unaware, no one sells rescue bot party stuff… transformers yes, rescue bot, not so much. But what it lacks in ready made supplies it makes up for in primary colors. So we scoured the internet and pinterest and this is what we came up with.

For the birthday banner I downloaded free fonts from dafont.com. I used the font "transformers movie" for the letters and "robofan symbols" for the faces… the transformer face is the character "a" to save you some time. I made a word document with the pennant shape from Nancy Bell in the background on each page and then put what I wanted in the background.

For the cups, I just used regular take and toss cups and matched up all the colors and then printed out labels with characters I found on google image search. I almost preprinted names but decided I'd let everyone pick their own robot.

For the napkins I spent an astoundingly long time figuring out how to print on regular store bought napkins… I'd seen a couple of places online that said I could just run the napkins through the rear tray on my inkjet printer and that was NOT the case.

Luckily after destroying 5 or 6 napkins I finally figured it out and will post a tutorial of what I did soon. Until then let's admire the awesomeness that I think was totally worth the effort :)

For the cake topper I used a beam box character which had the added bonus of being a fairly awesome gift. Heads up there is no Chase for the beam box but there is a youtube video floating around with how to shove a piece of cardboard under Bumblebee to get chase up on the screen… heads up the "Amazing Chase" game doesn't work after you level up, this is likely the reason you can't buy him.

Happy Birthday to my Big Amazing Fun Awesome Delightful First Born… Cant wait to see what in in store for you as you grow and learn.

Oh and lastly after the party I listed our leftovers on a local Facebook group resale page for free so I wouldn't have to toss my hard work… unfortunately they didn't come but hopefully I'll find a home for them soon.

Update: someone found me via Pinterest and is giving our banner a 2nd life! Hurray for the internet!!!

I totally forgot to post about the AWESOME thank you cards we made (and haven't only sent out half of so far)… These are them! they were a labor of love but after a lot of trial and error I actually got a system down that made making them bearable… now I know what you're thinking but I used my eCraft to cut out the faces, I'm not that crazy.
